Esperance, Western Australia
Esperance is set on the 'Bay of Isles'', the beautiful Archipelago of the Recherche. It is the regional centre for the south east of Western Australia, with an active port facility. The town is some 720 kilometres from the capital city of Perth, 380 kilometres south of the mining centre of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
While the views are great in Esperance, the town is based on supporting a solid foundation of resource industries - broad acre farming (cereal crops, beef and sheep) and in recent years the Port has grown to now export iron ore from mines at Koolyanobbing and Ravensthorpe.
The Shire of Esperance covers some 2,843 hectares and has a population of around 15,000. Great beaches and clear water attract many tourists (including fishers) to Esperance throughout the year.
Esperance Community Education Campus
Curtin in Esperance is part of an exciting project that has seen the formation of the Esperance Community Education Campus, a federation between Curtin University of Technology, Esperance Senior High School and its Education Support Centre, and the Esperance Residential College.
A jointly used facility has been created combining a library and information service and flexible learning telecommunications technologies. Seminar rooms, tutorial rooms, video conferencing and a computer lab with 24 hour access are available at the Library and Learning Centre.
